Considérant le prix des hébergements en Islande, le Puffin Nest Capsule Hostel offre une belle opportunité de sauver de l’argent, mais il y a un autre prix à payer. Bien que les capsules soient relativement confortables malgré leur simplicité, les aires communes montrent des lacunes. Si la majorité des capsules sont louées, il y a un manque flagrant de toilettes et de douches à disposition. Il en va de même pour la cuisine qui est très petite et le nombre insuffisant de chaises pour s’assoir dans le salon. Il s’agît d’un « Self Check-in » et les directives pourraient être plus claires. Nous avons été victimes de ce manque de clarté à notre arrivée. S’il y a paiement à effectuer, il est nécessaire de se présenter à l’accueil du Hamar Guesthouse qui est essentiellement la même propriété mais qui ne communique pas par l’intérieur. Malgré tout, les lieux sont propres, la tarification est juste et les cabines permettent une intimité plus grande que les dortoirs classiques.

Excelente trato y servicio. Hubo un problema con mi reserva y la resolvieron de inmediato y se disculparon. Cierto es, que a veces la comunicación por teléfono no es del todo fluida, pero son resolutivos y amables. La limpieza es muy buena, no tengo ninguna queja al respecto. El desayuno es aceptable. El trato con el personal es exquisito y agradezco todas las gestiones que se hicieron con mi reserva, porque siendo honestos podrían haber sido rígidos y no atender a mis necesidades. Way to cool experience to have the lowest price on the island. Note that the number of showers might mean some queening if the place is fully booked, it was not a problem during my stay. No breakfast included. Good customer service and great location.

Die Idee hinter dem ganzen finde ich mega und war eine coole Erfahrung. Leider habe ich auch negative Erfahrungen gemacht, weshalb ich dieses Hostel nicht weiterempfehle.
Vor unserer Ankunft erhielten wir (eine Freundin und ich) eine Mail mit Informationen. Die Kapselkarten liegen immer wie vorgesehen in der Kapsel.
Meine Kapsel hat funktioniert. Bei der Kapsel meiner Freundin ging das Schloss nicht. Die Kapsel lies sich nicht schließen (ca. 7cm breiter Spalt). Vor Ort war kein Personal, weshalb wir die Nummer anriefen. Erst nachdem wir mehrmal bei dieser Nummer angerufen haben ging eine Frau ran. Die Frau erklärte uns, dass das Problem bekannt sei und dies jetzt so ist (uns wurde mitgeteilt, dass sich 50% der Kapseln nicht schließen lassen und man die anderen mit etwas Druck aufs Scharnier sowieso auch öffnen kann). Nach unserer Nachfrage eine neue Kapsel zu bekommen oder wie wir weiter vorgehen können verneinte sie, sie seien ausgebucht. Dann sagte sie "Okay Bye" und legte auf. Etwas später rief uns die Nummer an und ein Mann (seine Stimme haben wir schon im Telefonat davor wahrgenommen). Er fragte, was wir für ein Problem wir hätten. Er sagte uns das selbe wie die Frau. Es schien ihnen wirklich sehr egal zu sein. In dem Moment haben wir uns echt verarscht gefühlt. Auch nach unserer Rückfrage von einer Rückerstattung erhielten wir nur die Antwort, dass es nicht möglich ist. Danach legte auch der Mann einfach auf. Wir wählten die Nummer und haben es wieder versucht um dann festzustellen, dass uns die Nummer blockiert hat.

Wir schliefen dann die Nächte zusammen in meiner Kapsel, was wirklich sehr eng war...

Der Fernseher hat in beiden Kapseln nicht funktioniert.

Dadurch dass der Aufenthaltsraum und die Kapseln nicht räumlich getrennt sind hat man ein Hörbuch in Form der Lebensgeschichten der anderen Bewohner automatisch dazu gebucht. Durch die oben bereits aufgeführte Problematik der Kapseltüren kann man die verzweifelten Schließversuche der Mitbewohner die die Türen verzweifelt Nachts um 2 zu hauen belauschen. Ein weiterer Punkt ist, dass die Kapseln nur aus Plastik bestehen und man dadurch das schnarchen der Nachbarkapsel sehr gut hören kann, was nicht sehr förderlich für die Qualität unseres Schlafes war.

Zudem sind die Flure Videoüberwacht, was nicht ausgeschildert oder vermerkt ist. des Weiteren gibt es keinen Stauraum für "größere" Gepäckstücke wie Koffer.

Es gibt eine Herrentoilette und eine Toilette für Damen, Herren und Behinderte, weshalb auch auf der "Damentoilette" die Herren ihr Geschäft verrichten. Was ein Problem darstellt da es nur zwei Kabinen gibt in denen sich auch gleichzeitig die Duschen befinden. Lange Wartezeiten sind somit vorprogrammiert.

Appena arrivati ci sembrava di stare in una lavanderia industriale con tutte le capsule allineate su due piani,ma questa nuova e inusuale sistemazione ci dava allegria! Dopo aver ascoltato le spiegazioni sul funzionamento della capsula da una delle deliziose titolari dell' hotel,prendiamo possesso della nostra. Devo dire che l'esperienza è stata fantastica! Abbiamo riso per ore,tanto l'alloggio era carino e confortevole: seppure in un piccolo spazio,non si aveva nessuna sensazione claustrofobica; era tutto bellissimo e luminoso! I proprietari sono accoglienti e disponibili e si divertono guardando le espressioni dei clienti alla vista delle capsule. È tutto talmente nuovo, un'esperienza sicuramente da vivere in allegria! L'hotel è pulitissimo;ci sono tantissimi bagni con docce e asiugamani a disposizione degli ospiti. La colazione è ottima. Ringrazio i titolari della struttura per l'accoglienza e la disponibilità. Consiglio vivamente di fare questa esperienza che fa ritornare tutti bambini! Io mi sono divertita e ho sognato di essere in una navicella spaziale! Thanks!

Don't be misled by the "puffin nest" in the name because the experience you are signing up for is more of a destroyer spaceship. Not a trace of puffin reference to be seen among the hostel's colours of black, white and neon blue.
The lodger was in on and integral to the jest, clad in a sheep wool vest despite giving off a definite air of an industrial-metal vocalist. My capsule was broken and wouldn't close,
which he announced without the scantest frown after giving it a brief try and blithely walked away.
The common room has two chess sets as parts of decor, one of them having the look of a sci-fi board game from the 90s; couldn't decide which is more offensive.
After I left, the building started buzzing and flashing lights on the green-blue spectrum and launched into space, retinued by a ferocious fleet of black, square kitchen plates.

Place was very clean!
Mother and daughter working there were very nice and welcoming (not very good English).
Location is great, 2 min walk from the ferry. Supermarket is around the corner.
If you haven't stayed in a capsule hostel before its a really fun experience!
Reception is around back (same Reception, building and staff for the capsule hostel and the private room hotel around back).
Only 2 shower and toilets for the entire capsules area, small kitchen. They don't serve breakfast off season. Shared area is a bit small for crowded days.

Confession, this is my first hostel stay - My wife and I stayed here for a night to see Westman Island. The space capsules were interesting with all the comforts of home (kitchen, showers, bathrooms) - very secure and safe. The amenities were clean, and homey. ||||There is coffee available around the clock, a great breakfast with some of the best hospitality. The location very convenient to everything on Westman Island - the Puffins, the volcano, restaurants etc... ||||In summary, the hospitality here is second to none, the location is awesome, and the amenities are great. I prefer to stay in hotels, but this is an awesome hostel and I would stay here again!
