My family and I came to this pool on our first trip to Iceland and had a relaxing, wonderful time. I believe we were the only non-locals; two of the Icelanders we talked to said they'd been coming to the pool twice a week for a couple decades and had never seen a tourist there. We had tried to go to a bigger one with a couple water slides about 5 minutes away but it was closed for annual cleaning. Our family of two adults and one child spent about $17.25 USD there, which we found to be very worth it. We went on an overcast evening in summer -- too cold for what we would consider a pool day in America but perfect in Iceland. We went from about 19:45 to about 21:15.
Everyone was so nice; the woman at the front desk let us borrow towels when she heard we had left ours in the car. For any others who are wondering about the Icelandic pool culture -- yes, you must take your shoes off right when you get in the door and shower nude before getting in your suit and out into the pool. You must also shower nude again and fully dry off before you get back into the changing room. It's quite hygienic and respectful to others because you keep the pool and locker rooms clean. There is a no-frills all-in-one-type soap available in dispensers around the communal shower areas that's usable for body and hair but you can use your own of course. There are helpful signs in the shower to show where they want you to concentrate your cleaning! Also, the changing rooms have free lockers with keys on bracelets that you keep with you at the pool.
The main pool is geothermally heated with a shallow end and kind of quick dropoff to a deeper end and two big lanes. Then there's a warmer Jacuzzi and a bigger but very shallow warmer pool, too. I think it was maybe a children's wading pool but I mostly saw adults hanging out in it as it was the perfect temperature for lounging and it was big enough for everyone. Then there are two little tubs next to each other -- one briskly cold and one very warm -- for alternating between. There's also a sauna and infrared sauna inside (remember your towel for those).
Back at the front you can grab a little snack after swimming -- ice cream or a drink. We got a little smoothie. We really enjoyed our time here and found it very worthwhile.
