A very centrally located; one can walk to nearly anything within 10 minutes (or less). Nice people and OK rooms (though typical European ones). Frankly, I think it's worth upgrading to a deluxe room (for about $40 more - which we did)... and those include a bathtub (and are larger). The hotel is about 50' from one of the finest restaurants in Reykjavik ("The Marketplace").

My partner booked this trip for my 30th birthday, and I can confidently say it was the best holiday we have ever been on. we flew with Iceland air - best plane we have been on yet! we had great seats with lots of room, our own TV, and northern light moodlighting for the journey. Our hotel was very well situated in the middle of the town, there was a small snack shop opposite us which sold hot wraps, and a few fast food shops across the road with also a little shop nearby. The hotel was nice and staff were welcoming. If you visit Reykjavik in January you need to be prepared for the limited time of daylight you have and plan your days. We were very lucky to see the northern lights when we stayed too. Be warned, it was very very cold when we visited in January. You will need thermals and most definitely thermal socks, leggings, hat, gloves and a scarf to keep you warm for your venture. Temperatures dropped into their minus figures when we were hunting for the northern lights so be prepared for the cold snap.

We stopped just before Christmas for four days as part of a Telegraph travel trip. The hotel is in central old town, it was great, small and very convenient, lovely big comfortable beds . Well equipped rooms, we didn't have breakfast as our trips left early. The staff were so helpful, checking trips for us and chasing down the road to locate the coach. I am a really light sleeper and had no problems. Daughter had a room with a single supplement, but it was very reasonable for Iceland.

This place is quite close to the center of Reykjavik. We didn’t have to use our car as walking was way more pleasant and we didn’t have to look for parking. We used our rental car only when we went outside the city.||||We were received with a heartily welcome and we were astounded how big this apartment was. It had a nice kitchen, a comfortable shower and bathroom, a table to eat on and even books and magazines. The beds were quite comfortable as well. ||The owner was quite nice and showed us our apartment. If we needed any help, we just had to ask her. ||||We liked to leave the windows open while we were there. It gave us a nice draft.||This is a cool place to visit Reykjavik.

The location is perfect, right by the harbour for whale watching, central bars and restaurants, and Icelandic fish and chips! The room itself was small but comfortable and clean. The bathroom is shared with other guests, but the guesthouse is small so we didn't have to wait. The only drawback, since our too was right next to the bathroom, was that you could hear other guests using the shower and toilet. This is fine if you're planning to make the most of Reykjavik's nighlife, but probably less good if you're planning an early night! Thanks to the hosts for letting us store our bags after check out until we made our way to the airport.

My partner and I stayed here for four nights as part of our holiday around Europe. Very reasonably priced given Iceland isn't cheap. We stayed in room 5 with the private bathroom and kitchen. Kitchen came in handy when we wanted to save from spending out in the city, had just about everything you need to cook most dishes. The room, bathroom and kitchen were all very clean. The beds were very comfortable and the heating certainly did the trick. No noise disturbance for outside and could hardly see the sun in the morning through the blinds.||||Nothing in reykjavik is far, but the location is minutes from the water, tours, flea market, groceries and the city centre. There's a great pub (Olsmiojan I think) about 10 minutes walk that sells pints for 490 krona.||||Reception were very friendly and happy to help. ||||The wifi was playing up in our room but we were able to use the group rooms for Internet.||||Highly recommended when visiting Reykjavik.

We went the second week of January - we had been advised best time to see the Northern lights. My husband very interested in geology and this was another reason for our interest in the island. Unfortunately the hotel was inadequate for ours needs you very small bedroom, no storage for our clothes - 7nights in the winter we were not travelling lightly! The staff at the hotel lovely and the restaurant also good. We had been warned it was very expensive and it sure was. This a city full of young fit people which is great but not for two 70 year olds in the winter - we didn't get to see the Northern lights

We chose to stay here as it was on the opposite side of where we usually stay in Reykjavik. Next to the picturesque harbour in a quiet and pleasant residential area, and a short walk to the bars and restaurants at the top end of Laugavegur, Gallery Central gave us a warm welcome on checking in. The parking in the immediate vicinity is chargeable, but you can park for free just a couple of streets up from the harbour. Our studio came with a big outside patio which impressed our friends when they visited. The studio though was rather cramped - especially the single bed on the mezzanine - but it catered for all our needs. As we were visiting Reykjavik at the time of year when it is light 24 hours a day, I was pleased the blackout blinds did what they were supposed to do. ||It was the shower that amused me though. The shower base was probably one metre square, and contained in it were the toilet and a very narrow sink which meant in effect I could have had a shower, a shave and a sh** all at the same time, had I had the inclination to do so. The kitchenette too was very tight space wise, but the bed was wonderfully comfortable.||I guess that Reykjavik is not an inexpensive place to stay - and Gallery Central therefore represented value for money, especially for its location. I did have cause to bring an issue to the attention of reception, but this was resolved swiftly, courteously and professionally. It is for this reason that I would recommend Gallery Central as a place to stay. When customer service is this good, I would probably choose to stay here again for a long weekend, but not for a week or more as the lack of space would have bothered me if I had stayed much longer.
