I got stuck in Dalvík due to a road closure, and the wonderful owners were kind enough to come out in person, at 9pm in a huge storm, to set me up with a room. They were extremely helpful and accommodating and I had a nice cosy stay. The hotel is also very conveniently located right by the main road, so it was really easy to get in and out despite heavy snowfall all night.

Freya and her team were amazing! I work with large group tours and they were so accommodating and wonderful to stay with, and they where so understanding and helpful when we had some last minute circumstances arise. Such nice people who go above and beyond for their guests! The location is so peaceful and relaxing. Great place to stay!

We slept one night in this hotel during the tour of Iceland. the Dalvik hotel is ultra basic, a bit dated, with tiny room but all in all acceptable. The girl from the Czech republic the check inn was very nice. The hotel has no restaurant so for dinner we had to make do with the suggestions the girl gave us (even though there are only two restaurants in the village). Very basic breakfast. It si no more a Fosshotel

The staff is fantastic! Freya home made all of our breakfast and dinner. We were in an EF tour with a school and they were very welcoming to our students. The rooms were very clean and the staff was very helpful to our needs. They were able to suggest activities such as horse riding and give us direct contacts to schedule the activities with the locals. They made our visit to Iceland one of our favorite EF trips we have done! Thank you Hotel Dalvik!

We were accommodated in a room in the section with a shared bathroom, it means not in a standard hotel room. The room was simple, quite small, just beds and several wardrobes, no table, no chairs. It was clean. The beds could be more comfortable. The reception desk is for the whole hotel. The czech-speaking lady at the reception was very nice. And you can have some free tea or coffee there. The shared bathroom is a problem because the toilets are within and it is for five rooms. On the other hand the shared kitchen was nice.

The hotel is very clean and feels welcoming. The owner was friendly and helpful with our horse back riding booking with a near by farm. They came to pick us up and drop us off for our horse ride. The kitchen and dining area is very clean and stocked with fresh food.

We had a last-minute (a month in advance, which is basically tomorrow when it comes to traveling to Iceland in August) change of plans, so this was the only hotel within reasonable distance of Akureyri I could find for a non-exorbitant price. Honestly, I should have spent more, as finding value in this place for $180/night was tough. I know I shouldn’t ask for much from a two-star hotel (really, all I expect is a place to sleep and a clean bathroom - read on to see how well that worked out), but even in high season that’s a lot to charge for:||- A “double” bed made up of two rock-hard mattresses with a pronounced gap in the middle |- A bathroom that STINKS of raw sewage (this was particularly lovely)|- Breakfast of questionable quality for $25/person|- A total lack of coffee- or tea-making facilities in the room (there’s a kettle at reception)|- Blackout curtains (particularly relevant during summer in Iceland) that blacked out NOTHING||About the only nice thing to say about Hotel Dalvik is that if not for the kind and attentive staff, this review would have one fewer star. Honestly, if you’re going to Iceland and staying at hotels rather than campsites, you’re already spending a fair few bucks. Spend just a bit more and stay at a better hotel.
