Simply outstanding. Need to file 2 petitions - one to Google to allow iconic places to be rated 10 stars out of 5, and another to the Icelandic govt to put this place on the tourism site.

We landed up at 2 pm, hungry and prepared to have at best cake and soup for lunch, but the owner unexpectedly whipped up an absolutely delicious chicken stew/curry with rice and potatoes, and perfectly toasted bread with butter on the side. His curry can give Indian moms a run for their money.

The inside of the cafe is cozy and inviting, with a museum nook on the poets life, as well as a library and reading nook. There are many cakes to try, and every one of them is delicious - we should know because we had 3 of them 😀 the decadent yet light French chocolate cake, the Icelandic happy marriage cake better than any other we have had, and the spiced bread cake with cheese that the owner kindly packed up for us just to try.

Apart from the fantastic food, and the beautiful location, just go to meet the owner himself. He’s so hospitable and sweet, and made us feel very welcome. His friends arrived as we were finishing lunch, and we had a lovely conversation about beautiful places in the world.. Westfjords, Kashmir, Greenland.. they were as charming as the owner was.

Experiences like this make us want to come back again, we will definitely be back!

The best coffee, cakes and bread throughout our trip. One bite, we could tell they are done with passion. Siggi, the owner is hospitable and shared info on the traditional method and flour used. Hot chocolate is great too. Very nice and cozy ambience. Kinda mini museum to learn about the famed Icelandic poet.
Siggi's cafe is only opened during the summer. He's got a nice 1 bedroom cottage (max 4 pax) next door for rental throughout the year. Fully equipped kitchen and with washing machime and dryer. I tried sharing Siggi's details here but got rejected a few times due to rules imposed Hope this attempt works...

Steinshús: A Tribute to Steinn Steinarr's Legacy And a delightful spot for a coffee break!

Nestled just a short 4km detour from the main road, Steinshús stands as a quaint museum and café that pays homage to one of Iceland's literary giants, Steinn Steinarr. Despite the poet never having lived in this house, the spirit of his work permeates the atmosphere, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in his world for a few summer months.

Open exclusively during the summer, Steinshús offers a cozy escape where one can savor excellent coffee paired with scrumptious waffles, all served with a side of warm, homely hospitality. The service is exceptional, ensuring every visitor feels like a guest of honor in Steinn Steinarr's symbolic abode. And for those bitten by the wanderlust bug, the journey can continue towards Kaldalón or Unaðsdalur, promising more scenic beauty and Icelandic wonders.

In essence, Steinshús is a genuine tribute to Steinn Steinarr's, a spot that rightfully earns its praise as "well worth the visit."

We were in a desperate need of coffee and happened to stumble across this cute place. The owner was so nice and gave us an entire can filled with delicious coffee and some local pastries as well. The view was amazing and we were able to sit outside in the sun.

We would definitely recommend going here, we loved it!
