Best hike I have ever done. Took me 8 hours. From the campsite into Thorsmork valley.

Key tips:

1. Sun protection
2. Leave no later than 10am to give yourself time to make it for the return mountain bus.
3. Boom the mountain bus in advance or you will be stranded.
4. Take a towel. When you arrive at the other side, you can grab a shower whilst waiting for the mountain bus.

Otherworldly. Indescribable. Best Hike I have ever completed. Hiked from Skogar to Basar (Porsmok) in one day (10am-8pm) as part of my reverse hike on the Laugavegur trail.

Absolutely recommend. Sunny, windy and rainy all in one day. But, breathtaking views throughout the entirety of this beautiful hike.

Note: 2 river crossings and 1 hair raising section called the ‘catswalk’ are involved in this day hike. There is also an option to split the hike in 2 days, staying in the hut (or camping) at the midway point.

Probably the best one-day trek in Iceland, approx. 24 km, 10 hours, from Skógar to Thorsmork, waterfalls, canyons, glaciers, lava fields, magnificent views, you got it all 👌🏻

The most stunning hike! We had a beautiful day! And would recommend when the weather is nice otherwise reschedule your day. Variety of terrains from waterfalls called lava fields, glaciers, volcano, and lush valleys. Was very worth it!

26 km szlak biegnący z Thórsmörk do Skogar.

An amazing hike. Can highly recommend setting out from Skoga. You spend the first 10 kilometers passing gorgeous waterfalls, then enter an arid and barren landscape, passing by Magni and Modi, to end up in the gorgeous valley of Þórsmörk. Make sure to bring enough provisions and water, and the right footwear, and plan to encounter all kinds of weather, as it changes rapidly. The hike can be done in a day, ranging from 7-12 hours depending on skills and fitness, consider to spend the night halfway at a cabin (make sure to book in advance).

10 stars would still be an understatement for this hike! Starting from Skogar takes you along the most beautiful waterfalls. The second part traverses over a volcanic landscape that has only recently been formed. The last part takes you into breathtaking Thorsmork; the view over these mountains is pure bliss and the best view I’ve ever seen. Most scenic and diverse hike we ever did. If there is one hike to do... then do this one!

It's a nice hike but compared to Laugavegur trail it's more boring. I was going from north to south and views at the northern side were picturesque. There is also one beautiful waterfall along the way. The path is secured with ropes at one short section, but nothing to be worry about.
You will cross lava field at the top.
Then, there is one really annoying part where you have to descend realatively steep moraine (about 50m drop) made of mostly sand. It's a bit dangerous and you have to be carefull. Than you have to ascend back through ice with unclear path. This section would deserve rerouting.
There are 2 cabins at the top where you can have a break.
Southern side of trail was endless descend along the river. Honestly, it was super boring and annoying and it took ages! Yes, there is later bridge and series of waterfalls on Skogá river. But I already seen them so I was not so hyped about them.
From Básar to Skogár it is about 23km long.
