We have stayed two nights in Helguhus with our family - and we have liked it a lot. It's not in the city center, but reasonably close by, in a very quiet street, but also close to the highway leading to the airport. I can't say anything about the regular guesthouse rooms, as we have stayed in the apartment which I can definately recommand for friends travelling together or for families. It has one very big Triple room, one Double and one Single room. The bathroom is enormous and offers even a washing machine. And the kitchen is very, very well equipped. You feel really almost at home. The apartment has it's own entrance. And the host, Helga, has been very friendly and helpfull with us. The only thing we didn't like: The curtains were quite thin. In June we had sun in our room - most parts of the night. But that's Iceland, of course 🙂

We stayed for 5 nights in Helguhus and loved it. We had a warm welcome from Helga the owner who was lovely and helpful. The Apartment was spacious, a large triple room, a double room and a single room. All rooms very clean and big enough. There was free WIFI and a TV in the house. The huge bathroom had a powerful shower, washing machine, hairdryer and everything you need. The water was super hot and the cold water so delicious to drink. The kitchen had all needed to cook or microwave food. It had no living room but it is not needed we had nice evening around the kitchen table. There is a sofa to watch TV, and the apartment felt warm even though the heating was not on and not needed.The windows have blinds and curtains so it was dark enough at night to sleep. It is situated in a quiet area, 8 minutes walk to the harbour, town centre and museum, close to route 41 to the airport and 10 minutes by car to Reykjavik. There are shops around to do the food shopping. (one open all hours for emergency shopping but it is more expensive than the others.)||I definitely would recommend this apartment to anyone as it is cosier than staying in a hotel.

I stayed at Helguhus several times between 2008-2010 and it was always a great stay. We usually rented the entire basement apartment for a week or two, and Helga and Axel were great hosts. Hafnarfjordur is a perfect location if you plan to rent a car while in Iceland and is more economical than Reykjavik. You are a short car or bus ride from Reykjavik, and Hafnarfjordur has everything you need in terms of groceries, coffee, walking by the ocean, and peace and quiet. It is particularly a great home base for touring around SW iceland. The basement of Helguhus is equipped with a kitchen and we cooked our meals most evenings. I'd stay here again anytime.

Managed to stay here at a very difficult time for Helga's family, so I feel doubly lucky. Such a kind lady and always make sure her guests have things exactly right. Last night of my visit to Iceland so able to relax away from the 'hustle' of Reykjavik ...

Arrived late and without notice. Helga only had triple room available for us however only charged for two. Well equiped bathroom and bedroom. Just off Keflavik highway so try to avoid access via the back roads. Recommended.

Decent cozy home. I don't know if it's a cultural thing, but the host was... completely nonchalant about her lack of concern for guests, not to say rude.

I booked this B&B apartment though booking.com,the marked price is €1250.00 for five nights, when I check out the owner charge me Iceland money convert to euro is way out the marked price, I make a complain to her, she said that is the way she charged every customer for 20 years, I feel like cheat,I just want to let everyone know,have to take care of it,
