I arranged our holiday through secret escapes. The apartment was £100-£150 cheaper than the hotels/apartments secret escapes had to offer in Reykjavik. ||||We arrived at the apartment at 6pm after being dropped off by 'Gray Line' (popular tour/airport transfer operators) outside a museum with no directions to the apartment. I had to use my mobile data (which cost a fortune!) to bring up a map to find the apartment; it was about a 5min walk. ||When we arrived there is a notice explaining check in was at 3pm, but we should have received an e-mail with our room number and keypad code - we had not received these beforehand and had to ring the help desk. ||||The room was relatively clean and contained a kettle, microwave, two hobs, fridge, cutlery and crockery. Unfortunately the entire apartment smelt of Egg when we ran the hot water, but this is due to Iceland using the geothermal springs which contain Sulphur. Fortunately our room had a view over Reykjavik, however on the opposite side of the apartment the view looks over a Supermarket and takeaway shops. The first night we encountered a hurricane with 62mph winds; water leaked through the wooden windows and the walls of the building were physically shaking throughout the night. ||||I personally don't feel the location of the apartment is particularly great (15 min bus ride to Reykjavik) and if I were to go again, I would splash out a little more and stay somewhere in Reykjavik. There are not many places to eat around the apartment that offer Icelandic delicacies, there were mainly takeaway shops and fast food shops. There was however a supermarket opposite the apartment where we purchased breakfast and lunch options to save money. ||||On the final day our flight was not until 7pm, however check out is at 10am. As there is rarely someone on the front desk, we were unable to leave our suitcases unattended and therefore had to take them out with us until our flight.

The North Star Apartments are just about 10 minutes from downtown Reykjavik and have an amazing view of the city. The rooms are sparse but have just enough in them to make them cozy. We had a microwave and a stove and that's all we needed as the Bonus grocery store was just down the street. We would load up our refrigerator with food daily and cook breakfast and dinner in the apartment. The basement had a free washer and dryer and after downloading the instructions we figured out how to use it. We would stay here again as the price was perfect.

Great apartment for 4/5 people. It has a microwave, 4 ring hob and a good amount of IKEA saucepans. With a little supermarket opposite it was great for self catering. Also had ample car parking. We had the road view instead of Reykjavik views though. Only problem was a fire alarm going off twice in our 8 day stay.

A comfortable bedside style room with a 2 ring hob, fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave so you can self cater easily. We had an odd number room so only a view of the grocery shop - but we did get good WiFi! Main complaint was the 2 fire alarms we had go off in 3 days - they are making more flats in the block next to this one and said this had upset the fire alarms - at 6.30am and 9.30pm? But assuming that will be sorted out I would recommend the place. There is parking front and back, you can walk to the Perlan and the heated beach, and catch a bus to Reykjavik. Being near to a main road means it us easy to get out into the countryside too.

We arrived quite late at the apartments and as there was no receptionist due to the late hour made our own way to the room. We also informed the hotel we would be late. At first we found we were not given the room number so had to call the helpline who gave us this. We then found the key code to collect our keys didn't work so we had to wait over 45 minutes for someone over the phone to fix this and they eventually had to put us in another room. This room to say the least was so unclean. There was a funny smell in the apartment, mould in the bathroom and the kitchen had seen better days. The microwave was actually unusable it was so dirty. Due to the late hour we could not go out for dinner so ran over to the supermarket and bought some microwaveable food, it was when we got back we saw the inside the microwave was actually brown and stunk of cigarettes.||||The only saving grace about this hotel, which has now been renamed to Iceland Comfort Apartments was Ellen, the receptionist. She was the loveliest person and we found her so helpful she even personally took us to the Grayline head office to pick something up and on the way back gave us a tour of the main city. Such a kind genuine person who really deserves to work somewhere a lot better than this place! We bought her a bunch of flowers to say thank you for everything she had done for us. Truly such a great person.||||Whilst checking out, We were shown the newly built apartments on the ground floor and these were actually nice - if we stayed in one of these this would have been a glowing review, however because the key to our room was not working I guess we got stuck with what was left even after we paid the higher price for a better room.

Great little apartment, has everything you would need for a really comfortable stay. There is a grocery shop opposite which is very handy and a couple of places to eat including a Subway where you can get a tasty sandwich to take with you whilst out exploring this most beautiful country. The only reason I mark it down one is for a problem which is out of their control, but the water whilst being perfect for drinking smells awful. This is due to the way it's produced, but still the freshest water I've had in a long while.
It is also only three minute walk from Hamraborg bus station which is roughly a 15 minute bus ride into Reykjavik centre. All in all I would highly recommend these apartments as a great and extremely affordable option.

We didn’t get the security code at time of the booking and unsuccessfully tried to contact the management for some time trying to get one (based on some negative reviews, we really wanted to get it before leaving). But all worked fine in the end – we got our codes (for the front door and for the apartment) one week before leaving from [email protected] so I believe this is the contact email in case you need to ask them about anything.||There is no front desk and no one to ask any questions. But we met the housekeeping person who was very nice and gave us everything we asked for.||For anyone who doesn’t have their own transportation: It looks like Gray Line is the only company that provides the drop off/pick up at this location going from/to airport. Get a 5% discount if pre-order tickets on-line. But tickets are available at the sales office at the airport. Need to mention that you need to be dropped off/picked up at Hamrabor. Buses leave the airport station every 20 min.||Overall review of the apartments/location:||Apartments are only 5 min away from the bus stop.||Grocery store is right across the street from the apartments. Open from 10am to 9pm.||Bank is located next to the bus station. Keep in mind that the bank is closed on the weekend.||The bus ride to Reykjavik – take bus number 1. It’s a little challenging to find the bus stop on the way to the city since it’s located under the over path a little on the side from all other stops but we got directions from the locals and didn’t have any issues with this. The ride to the city takes about 15 min.||Got back from the Harpa concert hall on the same bus #1.||Bus tickets – get on the bus from the driver. ||When booking any trips/transportation, need to specify Hamraborg as your pickup/drop off location.||We got a very nice apartment in the back of the building with the water view. Beds/pillows could be better but the apartment was very specious with the kitchenette well equipped. But don’t expect any condiments because there are none.||Several restaurants are very close by (we didn’t use any so I cannot comment on the quality).||We had some issues with Gray Line company – on one occasion, for the Blue Lagoon trip, they just forgot to pick us up. But when we called, they sent a small bus that took us straight to the place instead of taking us to their main bus terminal in Reykjavik for the voucher exchange; on the other occasion, on the way back to the airport, they were late but we made it on-time since the booking was 31/2 hrs. before the flight. Save their phone number in case you need to call.||We used Sterna tour company for the Golden Circle and the Secret Lagoon tour – this company picks you up right from the North Star apartments but still takes you to the same main bus terminal in the front of Harpa concert hall for a transfer to a bigger tour bus (no voucher exchange with them). The e-mail confirmation is sufficient when booked on-line. They have LifeChat where you can ask any questions.||Blue Lagoon and Secret Lagoon – make sure to go to both. Secret Lagoon is very nice but the Blue Lagoon experience is unforgettable.

The apartments are basic but contain most of what you need and it's close to Reyjvavik. There were only 4 parking spots in front of the building, the rest said 30 minute parking only. We were lucky and got the last space but it could be an issue. Our main issue was that wifi did not work at all in our apartment which was at the end of the hall. It worked well in the lobby but it was annoying to have to keep going there to get it. It was nice to have a grocery store right across the street .
