We had a fantastic stay at North Star Cottages. The cottage was clean and well appointed. We arrived to a warm, snug cabin after a day of walking in the rain, and it had everything we needed for a short one night stay. We were a family of four and we brought food to prepare. The kitchen had everything to cook, eat, and wash up. Beds were comfy and the shower was hot. Really great place.

Love the location. Everything was nice, great set up. Only caution is the hot water was scalding. I usually only need hot water, and the sink water and shower got so hot. It felt like it was gonna melt my skin before I could turn it down.
Kitchen area was nice w one burner, microwave, sink and table. Would defin
itely use this again.
Bonus location. Don't miss driving up the holler where this is and seeing the canyon.
We drove to vik late had black sand beaches to ourselves and seen puffins everywhere.
Great location for MANY waterfalls

We loved our stay. The cabin had a kitchenette with hot plate, toaster, microwave, plates, cups, utinsels for 4, it was perfect for us. Hot water in the shower comes and goes but part of the experience I guess. We hiked up the mountainside right behind our cabin and enjoyed an amazing view. We hiked up to the very close Seljavallalaug swimming pool which was also cool. Loved our stay. I don't see why they won't allow check-in times later than 9pm. We were aware of that deadline and arrived at 8:30pm so it was fine, but it's just a normal key in a lockbox by the door, which means someone is removing that key manually at 9pm or changing the keycode if you haven't checked in (because the box doesn't look electronic so I would guess they're manually changing it)... just be aware of that.

This place ruined our spotless Iceland trip. Let me summarize the painful experience we had with this place.||We had booked at North Star Cottage for 4 people (me, my wife, and our two kids) and were assigned unit number 5. These cottages do not have a front desk, which wasn’t expected as most of the places in Iceland are remote. So, we were given a passcode to enter. Due to rain and no visible hotel signboard on the main road, we couldn’t easily locate this place. We only reached the site between 9:05-9:10 pm. We struggled to open the door with the key provided. We also called the number displayed on the front of this cottage multiple times, but there was no response. That’s when we felt something was wrong with the reservation and started going through every detail. Somewhere in the fine print, it mentions that the check-in code expires at 9 pm. This information isn't visible when you make the booking. It was very cold with extreme wind, and we were left to wonder how to survive the night. Even the internet in this area is very patchy. We managed to call Expedia, and they couldn’t find us any place nearby either. By then, it was already 10:30 pm, so we decided to drive to the nearest big city and try our luck.||Thankfully, we didn’t have to spend the cold, rainy, windy night on the road. We could get decent internet speed as we got to a nearby small city, and we were able to find accommodation near Selfoss (100 km away but were willing to let us check-in). It cost us another $500 for one night but we had a place to stay warm

We spent a couple nights there in mid August 2023. The reviews I read weren't great but we wanted something campy anyway so we're not that picky. I have to say , the experience was great. They sent the code for the lockbox the day before so checking in was easy. The room was clean and spacious. There were no outdoor odors or bugs like you d expect for a remote cabin. They came in a cleaned the room and supplied fresh linens after the first night which I wasn't expecting. The area was close to hiking and waterfalls. Plenty of restaurants around as well. Overall, great experience.

Booked the cottage through Travelocity. In booking confirmation, North Star Cottage stated the cottages were self service and that they would send access code 24 hours before check-in time. The email never came so I called the number and emailed what was also provided on the initial booking confirmation. No one answered or responded to email. Thankfully Travelocity customer service was amazing and found a new hotel at no cost to me. That being said, I would not recommend booking with North Star Cottage. This part of Iceland is remote and it could have very easily turned into a situation where I was forced to sleep in my rental car.

It's nice little cabin at the foot of snow mountain with great scenary. It offers most necessary utilities. 4 adults of us stayed here for one night.

The communication to get cabin number and access code is very bad. They won't answer emails. Call only which gave us a hard time because we are from Canada. There's is land line phone in a white barn like house. You just need to open the door and make the call. Wish they had provided detail instructions so I would give better review.

Hello, my wife planned travel to Iceland for our family and booked one night at the North Star Cottage using the RBC Avion points. She did not get email from the property informing about check-in instructions as indicated in the booking confirmation email. The cottages (North Star) does not have a common reception desk and check-in instructions are to be provided by email. When she called to the property phone number and also got involved the Avion RBC visa representative, using the phone number for North Star Cottage many times, no one picked up the phone. We decided to not take a risk to drive all way from Keflavik to the cottage as originally planned as we did not have check in details on hand. We did not want to put at risk all family of not being able to check in and being stagnant in the Southern part of Iceland. We had to change travel arrangements which ruined all our dreams when we were planning to travel to Iceland. Whoever owns the property, is not reliable at all. I strongly recommend to take down this cottage from the booking options through RBC Avion, as the cottage is very poorly managed from communication standpoint and this can compromise Avion services. All our family are very disappointed. As suggested by the RBC Avion representative, I am going to file a claim and request reimbursement for all additional costs I had to pay out of pocket associated with this issue.
