We stayed here in 2014 when it was a great hostel with part of it operating as a Guest House. At that time the faded glory of the hotel it had once been was clearly in evidence. The facilities as a hostel including the kitchen, dining and lounge or common area were all excellent if a little old fashioned. ||||We were very surprised to find the building totally changed with renovations unobtrusive but not quite finished in some respects. Although the building is still listed on Hostels International as a hostel with all of the old amenities this no longer applies. We were paying hostel prices for something which is no longer a hostel so difficult to know how to rate. The rooms are great and like those in a hotel, not a guest house or hostel which was nice. Just two shower rooms on the 3rd floor for quite a few rooms without private facilities. Very good quality, just not enough, there was better provision in the hostel. ||||We were told the kitchen was not finished but we could cook in an apartment over the road. This was indeed close but it in no way provided kitchen facilities on a par with other hostels. There were two tables and six chairs, plenty of plates, no dishes, glasses and just two small cups, a kettle and no toaster. The cooking facilities were three electric hot plates with cooking pots being provided, there was no dish soap until we requested it, and refuse was over-flowing. This facility did not justify using the word kitchen in our opinion. ||||At breakfast the area became crowded and we stood up to drink our tea to allow others the opportunity to sit and eat. I had to ask for a toaster which was produced from behind the bar. On the second morning we got an unwelcome surprise, the kettle and the toaster had been removed from this area. I picked up our provisions, took them into the bar and explained we needed to prepare our breakfast there, the kettle and toaster was now in this area. The young people serving looked embarrassed but were gracious and brought dishes and cutlery. They also explained that when the renovations were complete the hostel would be located in a different building, the one in which we were supposed to cook. This made sense there were clearly renovations taking place their and this building was now clearly a hotel without the facilities of a hostel. We are used to hostels in England and Iceland and although facilities vary the kitchen and common room aspect fell way short of the mark here.

Stayed here for a night in a newly refurbished building. ||Room was clean and good, with an ensuite sink, and bathrooms good too. Rooms could do with an electric plug - impossible to charge phone in room, which felt like an odd oversight. ||Kitchen has probably been refurbished but in early July it was atrocious, no space and very limited facilities for a hostel. ||The town itself is a great sub-arctic fishing place and definitely worth a visit. Spectacular scenery.

Very expensive hostel with no area to share. Bad smell in the house. I do not recommend. Noise from the beer factory and people who were walking and partying after midnight. ||Its downtown in a small village so that is a benefit.

The pot in front of the hostel with hundreds of cigarette stumps was already a warning. ||||Large, but not well kept is this hostel.||||We had a double room - and went immediately in search of the linen closet to find fresh sheets - mine had short curly hairs on it. I leave it to anybodies imagination from which body parts.||||Thank god we had not ordered breakfast and brought our own stuff. Did not look appealing, nobody to look after it, apparently. Mostly cereals, it seemed.||||We had the general feeling: touch little, get out of there as soon as possible. Nothing of the charme some travel guides ascribed to it.

Modern yet simple Icelandic remodeled feel. Quite spacious bedroom with all linens provided and ready for you. Good breakfast. Everything was really clean and the mattresses were so comfortable. we had a great evening and stay

Fully renovated in 2016 , all the rooms was not yet available when we were there but everything would be finished by May 30th. New rooms , bathrooms, corridors are all amazing. The new management team had also change the name to "The residence" to make a break with the past. For sure looking at old pictures of the hotel and the actual , definitively it is a fully new hotel. Forgot all review that are dated before May 2016 and come here with closed eyes you will not be disappointed.

Super netter Host. Die Wohnung ist ordentlich wirkt aber etwas zusammengewürfelt; wir sprechen hier allerdings über Jammern auf ordentlichem Niveau. Features wie Kaffeefilter sind nett, ohne entsprechendes Pulver aber witzlos. Kleinigkeiten, die zum Perfekten fehlen, lassen den Gesamteindruck aber weiter als empfehlenswert beschreiben.

Ongelofelijk wat een mooi hostel, het is gerenoveerd en net weer open gegaan. Het mist nog wat sfeer maar dat komt goed, de kamers voelen als hotel kamers en de inrichting is grandioos. Helaas was de gemeenschappelijke ruimte nog niet open en was een naast gelegen huisje opengesteld voor de keukengebruik. Wanneer deze compleet draait is dit een van de beste plekken op ijsland
