A very pretty old stone church on the Road 45 loop near Keflavik airport. Easily viewed before heading into Reykjavik. The cemetery has some very old headstones here as well. Most churches in Iceland seem to be locked to protect them from vandalism. Viewing is done from the outside.

This is a tiny, beautiful church in the middle of a field in southwest Iceland. It is quiet and peaceful, and the cemetery is respectful and well-kept. If churches are your thing, I recommend a stop here.

Hvalsneskirkja is a beautiful stone church in Hvalsnes on the Reykjanes peninsula, built in the years 1886-87.remake of the one at Domkirkjan, Iceland's main Lutheran church, and painted in 1886. One of the Hvaleyrarkirkja's main relics is the tombstone of Steinunn Hallgrimsdottir (d. 1649), daughter of the major hymn poet and priest Hallgrimur Petursson (wherefrom Hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik derives its name)

It is tiny, with a touching graveyard around. Many tombstones are from 2020, Covid must hit them hard 🙁 Pay a respectful visit
